A teeth whitening pen is a neat idea but the results obtained might be somewhat disappointing and don’t really live up to expectations.
A whitening pen employs mild bleaching agents in liquid form contained in the body of a special pen that you can use to brush the liquid over the teeth for a quick boost to your teeth’s appearance at any convenient time. The instructions mostly suggest you keep your mouth open for at least 30 seconds after applying the fluid which forms a coating on the teeth, but in practice this is not so easy. As soon as the lips touch the teeth, or you close your mouth, friction and/or salivary flow will disturb the layer. The amount of time the bleaching agent is actually in contact with the teeth surfaces is minimal, and therefore whitening pens are not adequate for serious whitening of the teeth, but should be seen merely as an adjunct.
They may be useful for people who are on the go all day, meeting others and who want to be sure that their mouth is fresh. The chemical on the teeth soon gets diluted by saliva so can act as a mouthwash to freshen the breath if nothing else. The pens are inexpensive, and easy to carry around as an instant confidence booster.
